Joan Patricia Wangler, MCC, MA
Program Faculty
I’m an executive and leadership coach who lives and practices in the Washington, DC area. My firm, EDIN Associates, reflects my current sweet conviction that Each Day Is New. In 1980 it stood for Educational Design & Instruction Network. Times have changed.
An ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC) since 1999, I support clients at all levels. Some clients call me “a visionary able to skillfully combine insight and heart while supporting them.” A recent senior executive client described me as “Calm, experienced, wise, non-judgmental, in the moment, forward-thinking, demonstrates a good mix of business and personal.”
I am best known as chief designer and facilitator of NASA Goddard’s Diversity and Civility Creative Learning Group initiative: http://civility.gsfc nasa.gov/index.html, a dynamic award-winning coaching community of practice for NASA leaders. My expertise includes building and sustaining creative intergenerational leadership communities, working through transitions, cultivating emotional and conversational intelligence, strengthening resilience and raising awareness about civility and respectful confrontation.
I’m passionate about continuous learning and world café conversations that promote meaningful dialogue. Before civility became a national conversation, I designed the Civility Café, world café conversations in collaboration with PM Forni, author of “Choosing Civility.”
I hold an MEd from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in Reading and an MS in from the State University of New York, Albany in Educational Administration. I completed coaching certification through New Ventures West in 1998 and subsequently became a Master Certified Coach. Currently, I’m a Senior Leadership Coach for the Center for Excellence in Public Leadership at George Washington University. I’m a Certified Practitioner of the Leadership Circle Profile 360, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and Conversational Intelligence.
Check my bookcase and you will notice the poetry of ee cummings, David Whyte, Mary Oliver and Maya Angelou. I’m writing a book of haiku called “Golden Thread Haiku” based on loving connections with people close to me. Check my briefcase or purse and you will discover spools of gold thread to share with my clients to help them make their dreams come true.
A fun fact about me is that I was the undefeated eraser tag champion in the first three grades of elementary school. For many subsequent years, I was a spelling bee champ until thrown by the word “pleasurable” in eighth grade.
